Why You Should Plant Crocus Bulbs In Your Garden

Cheerful crocus flowers announce that spring has sprung! Crocus plants give beds and borders an early-season pop of colors. When planted by the hundreds or thousands, crocus bulbs naturalize beautifully in grassy areas, woodlands, slopes or under trees. Crocus plants can be successfully grown in a lawn for a spring meadow effect. Hold off on mowing the lawn in spring until the crocus foliage begins to die back.

Crocus Plant: Planting and Growing Tips

Hardy in zones 3-9, crocus bulbs should be planted in fall in well-drained, sandy soil in full sun to partial shade. Plant the bulbs 2-4" deep and 2- 3" apart. For best effect, plant in drifts of 20 or more bulbs. Crocus naturalize well. Crocus flowers grow 4-6" tall.

Typically crocus plants bloom in February - March. However, the Saffron Crocus blooms in the fall. For this particular crocus variety, plant before mid-October in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Plant the crocus bulbs 3-4" deep in groups of 10 or more bulbs.
