Daylilies for Sale from K. van Bourgondien

Daylilies are often called the perfect perennial because they're easy to grow, low maintenance and versatile in the garden and landscape. K. van Bourgondien has a wide selection of wholesale daylily varieties and years of experience cultivating quality daylily plants. One or more of our daylilies for sale is sure to fit your specific needs.

Choosing the Right Daylily Plants

Gardeners can buy daylilies in a range of colors (except blue and pure white), forms and sizes. When selecting daylily roots for sale, first consider your space. Daylilies can be grown as an accent plant, in small groups or in large masses. They can also be grown along fences or on difficult to mow hillsides. The variety's height and spread can give you an idea of how many daylily plants you need. If covering a large area, buying daylily roots in bulk makes economical sense. For smaller spaces, consider dwarf daylily plants for sale. Also take into account flower color and bloom times. By choosing at least several that bloom at different times, and with different hues and heights, you can have a colorful garden from late spring to fall.

Getting Started with Daylily Roots

Daylilies are long-lived perennials, and most varieties multiply over time. To grow a great daylily display, follow these tips on daylily planting and daylily care.

When to Plant Daylilies

Daylilies can be planted in the spring or fall.

How to Plant Daylily Roots

Daylilies are hardy in zones 3-9 and can be grown throughout much of the United States. They grow best when planted in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Before planting daylilies, amend the soil by mixing in compost. Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots without bending them. Roots should be just below the soil surface with the crown at the soil level. Space them about 24" apart. After planting, water well.

How to Care for Daylilies

A light mulch can suppress weeds and retain moisture in the soil. In the spring, lightly fertilize with a slow-release, all-natural fertilizer when the plants begin to grow. In hot weather, water deeply once a week. Deadheading the flowers will keep the plant looking neat and tidy.

When Do Daylilies Bloom?

Daylily bulbs bloom from June to fall, depending on the variety.

When to Transplant Daylilies

Daylilies can be divided in the spring or fall, when the clumps become overcrowded. This is usually every 3-4 years.
