About Bulbs: Summer Flowering

Summer flowering bulbs

Summer flowering bulbs, or tender bulbs, such as Gladiolus, Dahlias, Cannas, and hardy bulbs, such as Lilies are planted in late spring when there is no longer a chance of ground frost. A couple of months later they will bloom. Summer flowering bulbs will bloom in most climates but most of them are not winter hardy. This means that in some cold climates most summer flowering bulbs should be lifted in the fall following the first frost that discolors the foliage and stored to be used the next season.
