A Late Spring

Well, it seems there’s a prediction of six more weeks of winter according to Mr. Groundhog. But in reality, there are six more weeks of winter regardless of if he sees his shadow or not!  It just seems to be a promise of an earlier spring if he doesn’t, but we’re not at that prediction!

Even though the prediction or the reality of another six weeks of winter exists, the anticipation of spring keeps our hearts and minds as gardeners focused on what’s to come!

What does a longer winter mean to a flower farmer and a gardener? It means that you stick with your gardening zone’s predicted last frost date, sow seeds according to their suggested info and continue to plant in the appropriate season per plant variety. The planning and growing goes on for the farmer and gardener alike!

Are you feeling energized and excited for the sound of birds singing, the fresh growth in your garden plot and the sight of buds unfolding? Well, allow me to help you further along in visualizing the sights and sounds of spring!

With planning and protection, the anemones are beginning to wake up. It’s definitely early, but no complaints here. Seeing the growth and commitment of these cool, hardy plants gets me excited for spring. It shows that we’re just in a short season of cold until the gardens come to life!  There’s a reason for every season! I look forward to offering anemones here at the farm through fresh bouquets.

With some possible extra time throughout these winter days, why not try creating new ideas and adding some unusual plant varieties to your gardens? K. van Bourgondien has a delightful selection to choose from and makes everything clear and easy to order!  Think dahlias, gladiolus and lilies. And don’t forget about hostas for foliage purposes!

Spring is sure to arrive… happy planning!
